Our favorite foodie Patrick Evans-Hylton joins us today as we look ahead to Virginia Wine Month, which is observed in October. We'll talk with sommelier and owner of Blue Talon Bistro in Williamsburg, Adam Steely and Jonathan Bess, the owner and wine maker at Holly Grove Vineyards on the Eastern Shore about Virginia Wines and we'll check in with Robin Goldstein, author of 'The Wine Trials' about the blind tastings conducted for the book which revealed 100 everyday wines under $15 that outscored $50 to $150 bottles.

Health Care Forum
Today we talk about the impact that proposed changes to the US Health Care system would have on employers and physicians locally with ER Doctor James Dudley and Barbara Wallace the CEO of the Virginia Business Coalition on Health. Segment A: Professor Shimon Shetreet
Professor Shimon Shetreet, a former deputy mayor of Jerusalem and a law professor at Hebrew University, is a visiting professor at Old Dominion University this semester. Shetreet has worked extensively on Israeli justice and building understanding of interfaith issues in an international context and he joins us for a conversation on these issues.

 

Segment B: Dr. Zbigniew Brzezinski
Zbigniew Brzezinski, National Security Advisor for President Jimmy Carter, will be in Norfolk on Thursday, October 1st for the 'Waldo Family Lecture Series on International Relations' at Old Dominion University. He joins us in advance of his appearance to discuss the challenges facing US Foreign Policy today and what we can learn from the past.

Lou Gehrig's Disease
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), most commonly known as 'Lou Gehrig's Disease', is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord eventually leading to loss of voluntary muscle action. The cause of the disease is largely unknown and few treatment options exist for those who are diagnosed with it. Today we'll talk with Bruce Thompson, a Virginia Beach developer whose son Josh was diagnosed with the disease in 2007, Cathy Easter with the ALS Association and Dr. H. Blair Marsteller who is the Director of the Riverside ALS Clinic.
