The "American Dream" has long been a defining characteristic of our country and home ownership is at the heart of that ethos. Events of the past decade have rendered this milestone all but unattainable for many Americans.  Habitat for Humanity is fighting to change that by uniting donors, builders and volunteers across all of Hampton Roads. Segment A: Songs of Virginia
Virginia has a rich and intricate history, marked with tales of triumph and tragedy, conflict and compromise.  Music and song have long been a means for sharing these stories with younger generations, and today on HearSay Cathy Lewis will include our listeners in this rich oral tradition. You'll hear the rousing sounds of fife and drums and haunting ballads as Virginia historians share the stories and songs that bring our Commonwealth's history to life.

Pa’s Fiddle:  Dean Butler
In this segment, we’ll talk with actor, producer Dean Butler.  Butler starred as Almanzo Wilder in the TV series “Little House on the Prairie” and has co-produced the PBS special, “Pa’s Fiddle.”   Laura Ingalls Wilder’s father, Charles, would play the fiddle for his family when she was growing up, and that music inspired the narrative for her novels based on her life in Wisconsin, Kansas, Minnesota, Iowa, and South Dakota in the late 1800’s.  He’ll talk about “Little House” and the upcoming music special that features country stars, Randy Travis, Rodney Atkins, Ronnie Milsap, Ashton Shepherd, The Roys, Natalie Grant and Committed (NBC Sing Off Champions), and airs Sunday, June 10th at 8pm on WHRO-TV 15.  Dean Butler will also be in the WHRO studios live that night for the program.

Teen HIV/Aids Prevention

As the old adage goes, "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure."  In the case of HIV/AIDS, prevention remains the most effective means of halting this incurable disease’s propagation.  Dr. John Chittick has made it his life's work to educate youth across the globe about the dangers of HIV/AIDS, empowering them with this message: “You have the power to save your best friends’ lives from HIV/AIDS.”  Cathy Lewis is joined on HearSay by Dr. Chittick and his colleagues to discuss their efforts in halting this global pandemic.

Virginia Primaries

Virginia Primaries
On June 12th, voters across Virginia will head to the polls for the Primary Election that precedes the November 6th General Election.  Cathy Lewis will be joined by political experts to discuss how Virginia's use of an "open primary system" could impact the election. We'll also examine what the future holds for House and Senate hopefuls and take a look at Virginia's redrawn congressional map and discuss its implications.
