Maternal Mortality
Fans of PBS Masterpiece Theater’s Downton Abbey might still be in a state of shock and disbelief after last week's episode, in which beloved Lady Sybil Crawley gave birth and then died from “eclampsia.”  What might be even more shocking is that, despite advances in modern healthcare and birthing procedures, the maternal mortality rate for women in the U.S. has doubled in the last 25 years. On today's HearSay, host Cathy Lewis considers an issue as old as childbirth itself and speak with public health and maternity experts about what can be done to prevent the death of mothers at childbirth.

Scheduled Guests:

Dr. Victoria M. Kavanaugh -  Coordinator, Maternal Mortality Review Team

Dr. Susan Lanni - Associate Professor and Medical Director, Labor and Delivery unit at Virginia Commonwealth University

Dr. Suneet Chauhan - Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Eastern Virginia Medical School

Eleni Z. Tsigas - Executive Director, Preeclampsia Foundation
