Segment A: Global Citizen of the Year 2014

The World Affairs Council of Greater Hampton Roads' Ryan C. Crocker Global Citizen of the Year Award is given each year to individuals who have made substantial contributions to the furthering of peace and understanding across the globe.  The award takes its name from its first recipient, Ambassador Ryan Crocker, a diplomat with a distinguished 40-year career. On February 13 the Ambassador will present author and humanitarian, Le Ly Hayslip, with this year's honor.

Although Virginia's overall homeless rate dropped 16 percent in the past three years, Hampton Roads has seen a continuous increase in the metrics for families and veterans without permanent residence. Today we’ll discuss the challenges and stigmas facing the homeless in Hampton Roads, and consider what programs are available to those looking to transition to a better life off the streets.
