This week Old Dominion University is convening a panel of local women who've dedicated themselves to public service roles in our community.  On today's HearSay we're joined by some of those panelists working in the fields of local government, academics, and service learning for an exploration of what drew them to those fields and the challenges faced by themselves, and other women in similar roles.

On the Trail

We're joined today by hiker, author and adventurer, Jennifer Pharr Davis.  She was named National Geographic Adventurer of the Year in 2012 after completing the 2,181-mile Appalachian Trail in 46 days, 11 hours, 20 minutes. She'll share her incredible story of determination, endurance and teamwork, one where she averaged 47 miles per day, claiming the overall fastest known time on the Appalachian Trail and becoming the first woman to set the mark.
