A Constant Companion

Garrison Keillor, the beloved host of public radio’s “Prairie Home Companion,” is coming to Portsmouth this month on the "A Prairie Home Companion — Summer Love Tour." On today’s program, Garrison joins Cathy with all the latest news from Lake Wobegon, as well as what to expect from this latest tour, which includes The Guy's All-Star Shoe Band and sound-effects man Mr. Fred Newman. A lover of poetry, Garrison has edited a number of anthologies, which he shares every morning on the wrtiers almanac. We’ll talk with him and other poets about the power of words.

Garrison Keillor is the host and writer of A Prairie Home Companion and The Writer's Almanac heard on public radio stations across the country and the author of more than a dozen books, including “Lake Wobegon Days,” “The Book of Guys,” “Love Me” and “Homegrown Democrat.”


Timothy Seibles, an associate professor of English at Old Dominion. He is the author of several books of poems including Hurdy-Gurdy; Hammerlock; and, most recently, Buffalo Head Solos. His work has been featured in anthologies such as Black Nature, Seriously Funny, and So Much Things to Say. His poem, "Allison Wolff" was included in The Best American Poetry 2010 anthology.


Suzanne Underwood Rhodes, a poet whose work has appeared in many literary journals. Her poetry collections include What a Light Thing, This Stone and Weather of the House. Rhodes has taught writing and literature at King College, East Tennessee State University, Old Dominion University, and many others.
