Virginia's 1st Senate District includes all of the City of Williamsburg, most of the City of Newport News, and parts of James City County, York County, the City of Suffolk and the City of Hampton.

Virginia’s 8th Senate District includes the Virginia Beach Oceanfront from the the eastern half of the Lynnhaven Inlet on Shore Drive to the North Carolina border and includes First Landing State Park, Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge, NAS Oceana and CDSA Dam Neck Naval Station.

Which party will control the Virginia Senate after the November 3 general election? The Wason Center for Public Policy at Christopher Newport University hosted a debate between Senate Majority Leader Tommy Norment (R) and Minority Leader Dick Saslaw (D) this week.  Today, we bring you that event in which Norment and Saslaw debate why voters should give their respective party the majority. This program was edited for time contraints.

The November general election is less than a month away.  On today's program, Dr. Quentin Kidd, Vice Provost and director of the Judy Ford Wason Center for Public Policy at Christopher Newport University, joins HearSay host, Cathy Lewis, to review the candidates and the issues voters are facing this year.  Later, we're joined by Dr. James Koch, Board of Visitors Professor of Economics and President Emeritus at Old Dominion University. Dr. Koch shares his findings in the 16th Annual State of the Region Report with us as we explore its implications for the Hampton Roads area.

New News: Southside Daily / "Mark Warner the Dealmaker"

There's a new news station in town and its address is online!  Southside Daily is Local Voice's newest radio-supported online newspaper using the same model as the Williamsburg Yorktown Daily (WYDaily.com). On today's program, we'll talk with the creators of this latest media mix of radio and newspaper reporting. Later in the hour, Senator Mark Warner was an entrepreneur from a young age and became the world’s first cellular industry broker.  As Governor, he led Virginia out of its worst fiscal crisis in decades, and evenutally made it to the U.S. Senate.  Author Will Payne joins us to discuss his new book, Mark Warner the Dealmaker, the story of how Senator Warner entered the governor’s office a hands-on dealmaker and emerged a statesman.
